Creating Healthy Communities-A Mini Action Institute

On June 4, 2014, Healthy Communities of Clinton County Coalition and St. Vincent hosted “Creating Healthy Communities-A Mini Action Institute” where community leaders and health advocates all across Indiana gathered to discuss healthy goals for their counties and sharing Clinton County’s successful strategies in building active communities. The event was paid for through a $5,000 grant from County Health Rankings, Roadmaps-a group that supports local communities, and St. Vincent Health. The keynote speaker was Mark Fenton, a national public health, planning, and transportation consultant. Fenton challenged communities to implement effective tools to transform overall health in order to serve the next generation. Fenton called for making healthy communities by design and for collaboration; urban planning, city ordinances, and school policies should all be tools in creating a place where physical activity is common.  “It is not just health advocates who are responsible with implementing change, the job belongs to everyone.”
